A Thai government spokesman said the country's finance ministry had been instructed to speed up its timeline to consider legalising casino businesses and gaming resorts.
The Bangkok Post cited Tsai Wacharonke as a source of information that reported Thai Prime Minister Sretta Tabithin had told Deputy Finance Minister Julapun Amonvibat to expedite the research. The assessment considers a House of Commons report on the subject, voted on by Thailand's parliament in late March and approved by the cabinet on April 9.
The study looked at three aspects: the economic, social, and cultural impact of having a casino resort industry in Thailand; business structure and revenue collection; legality and standards of law for such casino industries.
The Bangkok Post said five possible locations have been mentioned for these resorts so far. Two were in the capital, Bangkok, and one was each in the Eastern Economic Corridor, Chiang Mai, and Puket.
